Field Mounting I/O System   BL67  for Profibus-DP

Open, modular and extremely flexible:
BL67 is a field-mounted bus I/O system where the user decides the bus system interface, the I/O layout, type and quantity of inputs and outputs to suit their specific requirements. Interface gateways are also available to communicate with Profibus-DP, DeviceNet. CAN open and Ethernet. Diagnostic data is transferred to the higher level control-system.

The electronic modules are capable of hot-swapping, i.e., they can be replaced during operation. They can be removed and plugged during load-free operation without having to disconnect the field wiring. The 24 Vdc field supply is either provided via the gateway or the power feeding modules.

Signal I/O in any order:
I/O modules can be combined in any order to suit your application, whether analogue or digital, irrespective of the fieldbus used. So the I/O layout suits your preference. You can have your I/O on a machine-by-machine basis mixing the I/O the way you want, or say keeping digital signal together etc., whatever you like. You only have to buy the exact number of channels you want, making BL67 a really cost- effective solution.

Power Supply Modules can also be installed at any point within the BL67 station. They provide an isolated field voltage to all modules mounted to their right. Power feeding modules can also be used to create various potential groups. The number of BL67 modules, which can be powered via the internal module bus, depends on the nominal current rating of the individual modules on the module bus.

Gateways:
Gateways are the link between the fieldbus system and the I/O modules. They control the entire data communication. The BL67 I/O system provides gateways for all major field-buses. The modules communicate with the gateway via an internal bus. Based on this concept, the system is open to future bus technologies.

Compact Design:
Each BL67 station consists of a gateway and set I/O modules. All modules are simply clipped onto DIN rail without the use of tools or may be mounted directly to a surface. Base and electronics modules are mechanically coded and so are simple and safe to allocate. The system is designed for mounting within a control panel. For panel-mounted I/O systems see BL20 I/O System.

The engineering software I/O-ASSISTANT is designed to support the user during the complete planning and set-up phase of an I/O system. The software can be used to project, configure and parameterise a BL67 station, both in the on-line as well as the off-line mode. This software is also a useful tool for system set-up, tests and diagnosis.

NOTE:
The maximum number of modules is dependent on the respective system configuration. The maximum number may be limited as the maximum current consumption on the module bus may not exceed 1.5 A. A limitation may also result if modules with extensive process, parameter and diagnostic data are used. The I/O-ASSISTANT takes this fact into consideration and issues a warning message if appropriate.

     

Examples of Base Connection Modules

BL67 electronic modules are plugged into the purely passive base connection modules. The field devices connect to the base modules. This simplifies maintenance. The base modules also provide a choice of various connection technologies.

The electronic modules are completely independent of the type of higher level field bus through the use of gateways.
