Machine Press Guarding Example B

Application:
Point-of-operation guarding of the opening to a high-tonnage press.

Description:
Additional guarding is required on the rear of the press and all other safety hazard areas.

Guarding:
Installing simply a vertical light curtain to meet setback requirements would create a space between the vertical light curtain and the press which would be wide enough for an operator to stand inside and undetected by the vertical light screen. However, by installing an additional short horizontal light screen to guard the space between the vertical light screen and the front of the press, screening and setback are achieved.
